This is a FREE service for people aged 16 and over who could be at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, a conidition characterised by what is known as insulin resistance. This is a condition where the body does not corrently respond to the insulin being produced, resulting in the blood sugar level becoming too high. Type 2 diabetes can be controlled effectively with medicines and by keeping a healthy lifestyle.
Come in-store and speak to our trained pharmacist in a private consulation room. You will be asked a series of questions which will be used to determine if you are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. The questions you will be asked include:
- Your age
- Your height and other body measurements
- Your daily activity/exercice
- Your diet
- Any medication you are taking
- Family history of diabetes.
If the pharmacist feels you are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, you will be advised on how to slow or even reduce the risk of developing the condition.
If you are considered to be at high risk, the pharmacist will measure your blood pressure and your blood glucose level. Depending on the results of the test, we may ask you to come back for further asessments.
